From Martial Arts to the World of Stunt Performance
Sam Durrani’s journey to becoming a professional UK stuntman began at just three years old, when he followed in his family’s footsteps and started gymnastics. By the age of seven, he had joined a gymnastics squad, where he discovered not only a passion for the sport but also the strong sense of community and teamwork that came with being part of a group.
At 14, Sam switched disciplines and began competing in swimming, a sport he had previously enjoyed alongside gymnastics. Then, at 19, his passion for martial arts took centre stage. He competed in a variety of disciplines, including Taekwondo, kickboxing, open freestyle martial arts tournaments, and eventually MMA cage fighting. In one of his earliest MMA victories, Sam won his first cage fight in just 15 seconds.
After completing college, Sam made the bold decision to leave his gymnastics coaching job and pursue his lifelong ambition of becoming a stuntman. Determined to make his dream a reality, he invested his savings in a video camera and filmed his own stunt showcase reel, which he sent to stunt agencies in the hope of securing work.
His hard work soon paid off. Not long afterwards, Sam received a call from an agency offering to sign him for live stunt show performances. From the summer of 2006, he began working on a variety of live shows around the world, travelling to destinations including China, Northern Ireland, and Germany.
With valuable experience under his belt, Sam decided to take the next step in his career by undertaking the rigorous training and examinations required to join the British Stunt Register. Completing the process took approximately four years, demanding dedication, perseverance, and a high level of skill across multiple stunt disciplines.
Once he successfully joined the British Stunt Register, opportunities to work in television and film began arriving quickly. Since then, Sam has continued to build an impressive career as a professional stuntman, working on film and television productions and performing a wide range of challenging stunts.
